Commodore 64 PSU Power Saver

£25.00

Commodore 64 PSU Power Saver will protect your precious Commodore 64 from power supply failure.

Safely use your old power supply without the worry of it destroying your Commodore 64.

Original power supplies are the highest risk of failure for your Commodore 64.

This device will ensure your computer is protected and alert you in the event your power supply starts to fail.

The supplied custom Commodore Case will glow with Green for Good and Red for Bad.

Simply connect your power supply to the socket in the Commodore 64 saver and connect C64 saver plug into your Commodore 64.

The original Commodore PSU’s are 40 years old and can fail anytime.

Commodore History

Commodore intended the C64 to live a maximum of 5-6 years and so the components chosen reflected this. No thought went into considering what happens past this point. Now that it’s 40 years later we know that the 5v regulator has a tendency to short out input and output voltage, meaning that those sensitive 5v chips will intermittenly, or sometimes even permanently, end up getting something like two or three times that… enough to melt that precious silicon!. Your options are either to get a brand new power supply or combine your old one with a C64 power saver for as long as that’ll still be around, running unprotected is simply foolish these days!

Product Design Features

This unit will protect your Comodore 64 with multiple fail safe’s. Most PSU’s will fail by slowly increasing the 5v supply voltage which will simply trigger the saver to safely cut the supply voltages. There is also a second fail safe fuse which will blow in excessive circumstances of power supply failure still protecting your commodore C64. Replacement fuses are available for very low cost from here at Retronerd or from many online component retailers. It is rare for the fuse to blow as the electronics invariably detect sudden voltage surges and disconnect the voltage quickly and safely. A catastrophic failure can occur and therefore the fuse will ensure ultimate protection.

Why I made these

I decided to make these saver devices following a PSU failure described here
