Amstrad CPC 464 with Original Monitor & Joystick
A classic Amstrad CPC 464 with Original Monitor & Joystick and one of the most successful computers of the 19890’s.
History
The first Amstrad CPC prototype named “Arnold” gave the name ROLAND (Arnold acronym) to several CPC games. Built around a 6502 processor and 32k of ram. Fortunately, Locomotive, Amstrad’s software partner, convinced the company to alter the system design to a Z80 processor and 64Kb of memory.
The final product was first manufactured in 1984. The Amstrad CPC 464 was a milestone in 8bit computing history. The system comprises an all in one solution of Monitor, keyboard, tape unit and is very simple to set up with just one plug!. A huge number of programs and peripherals were developed for this machine thanks to the Z80 processor which made for easy porting of ZX Spectrum games. It ran AmsDos (Amstrad’s Operating System). AmsDos was completely embedded in the Basic using so-called RSX commands starting with |. The 464 also could use CP/M 2.2 or 3.0 when used with an external Floppy disk unit (3″ Hitachi, 180 KB / face). A lot of great CP/M software was adapted for the Amstrad CPC.
Although initially launched as a serious machine, the 464 had 27 colours, 16 of which could be displayed in the lowest resolution mode, and sported a healthy 64Kb of memory. The integrated tape deck allowed for easy loading of software and as it also came equipped with a joystick port, all of which made it quickly popular with gamers.
About 42 KB RAM was available for the user, the video memory and the ROM are mapped on the same addresses with a dedicated chip to switch the memory banks automatically.

Has a crack on the clear plastic tape cover, and a few small marks on the main unit as per its age.
